Barrel Aged Beer Release – Bourbon Putin the Terrible Russian Imperial Stout

First time in bottles!

Tuesday, October 2, 2018 we release Putin the Terrible, our Russian Imperial Stout aged on Bourbon barrels. Probably one of the best beers we have made to date….this is not to be missed. We open at 4pm. Limit of 6 bottles per person.

J & B’s Bucket List will also be here at 5pm……chicken and waffles, beef sliders, tacos, cheesy grits, potato hash, scotch eggs, deep fried deviled eggs… Perfect for washing down a bottle of Putin.

Our Russian Imperial Stout is made in the tradition of 18th Century English brewers, who supplied this style to the royal court of Russia’s Catherine the Great. This version of the style uses slightly higher hopping rates of Centennial and Chinook hops to balance the beer. The result is an intense brew with rich complex flavors and a warm finish. Putin may be terrible but this beer isn’t.

9.5% ABV, 43 SRM, 57 IBU

Barrel Aged Beer Releases Friday the 13th, and New Fall Beers

Head brewer Matty has been busy growing his barrel aging program and we’re so excited to try his latest creations!

Friday, October 13th

We’re taking our luck into our own hands this Friday the 13th and releasing two more barrel aged beers! Come on out to try Barrel Aged Bushfire, our chipotle amber ale aged for 5 months on Tequila barrels and Barrel Aged Keep Calm and Saison, our French farmhouse ale aged on Chardonnay barrels. That means we’ll have FOUR barrel aged beers on tap all weekend – that’s 1/3 of our taps! Also in the lineup will be Barrel Aged Log Tosser, a wee heavy on bourbon barrels, and Barrel Aged Captain Bligh’s, a robust porter on rum barrels. We’ll have the barrel aged beers on all weekend so come get some while you can!

It’s also Firkin Friday so we’ll have a wet hopped Alewife Afternoon Belgian Pale Ale with fresh chinook hops.

Damiano’s Wood Fired Pizza will be in the house so bring your appetite!

Beer to Go

Keep an eye on our Facebook page for our flash Crowler sales, such as our popular #twofertuesday BOGO and $6 Crowlers.

New Fall Beers Coming Soon

The leaves are falling so it’s time for us to add some new fall-friendly beers to our tap lineup. Coming soon look for our Second Breakfast Coffee Brown, Visibility Zero Smoked Chocolate Rye Stout, and Trials and Tripelations Belgian Tripel.

Fall Hours

Summer is done so we’re back to regular hours on Sunday 12 – 6pm. But we’re keeping our extended Friday hours for now from 3 – 10pm. Because really, who is working on Friday at 3pm? No one. So stop in and see us, and bring a friend!

New Beer Release, and Summer Hours

On Thursday, June 1 we’re releasing our new “Log Tosser” Wee Heavy Scotch Ale. Long boil times and low fermentation temperatures create an exceptionally malty beer with sweet caramel and butterscotch flavors. It pours a beautiful dark copper hue, and you’ll find dark fruit aromas on the nose as it warms up. At 9.7% ABV it hides its alcohol well making it very drinkable. Brewed in collaboration with Commonhouse Aleworks. 9.7% ABV, 22 SRM, 20 IBU

“When the cup is full, carry it even.” – Scottish Proverb.

Now that summer is unofficially here, we’re moving to summer hours! We’ve added extra hours to take advantage of that evening light.

Summer Hours (new hours in red)

Monday – Thursday: 4pm – 9pm

Friday: 3pm – 10pm

Saturday: 12pm – 10pm

Sunday: 12pm – 8pm

Taproom Happenings

Thursday, June 1 – Log Tosser Wee Heavy Release, Grill Force One popup

Friday, June 2 – Firkin Friday, Ludicrous Triple Hopped Throat Charmer Double IPA, Damiano’s wood fired pizza, Live Music with the Green Levels

Saturday, June 3 – Boxcar Betty’s chicken sandwiches 1 – 4pm, The Immortal Lobster lobster rolls

Sunday, June 4 – LulaRoe Sip and Shop benefitting Lowcountry Orphan Relief 12 – 3pm, Cuban Gypsy Pantry foodtruck

From the Brewhouse

Head Brewer Matty has starting a barrel aging program. In collaboration with Commonhouse Aleworks we’ve filled two bourbon barrels (a Blanton’s and an Eagle Rare) with the Log Tosser Wee Heavy. We’re also aging the Captain Bligh’s Robust Porter with vanilla beans, coconut and cocoa nibs on rum barrels. We’re planning to fill a tequila barrel with Bushfire Chipotle Amber. And we have a Chardonnay barrel that we’ll fill soon, beer TBD. In the fermenters we’ve got Bushfire Chipotle amber, Wicked Throat Chamah, and the First Blood Hefeweizen so those will all be coming back on in the taproom soon.

New Beer Release: Wicked Throat Charmer

Today we’re pulling out all the stops and tapping our new beer, Wicked Throat Chamah. This juicy New England style IPA comes in at 6.5% ABV, 7 SRM, 75 IBUs, and is wicked awesome. Dry hopped at the height of fermentation with tons of  Citra and Amarillo, this beer is definitely hop forward but has almost no bitterness on the back end. It has a hazy orange color, and is full of tropical and citrus flavors and aromas.

If that’s not enough, it’s National Burrito Day and Rebel Taqueria will be here to fill your bellies with burrito goodness. So put down your grinders, frappes, and hoodsie cups, put on some Sox and shoes, bang a uey and head on ovah to the taproom for a pint of the Wicked Throat Chaaaamah.

New on Tap – Broom Wagon Cold Brewed Coffee
This cold brewed coffee is served on Nitro producing a smooth creamy head. Try a shot in our milk stout for added kick. This blend of Sumatra, Mandheling, and Gayo fair trade beans has a citrus and melon body, with a sweet cedar finish. Roasted at Broom Wagon Coffee on Ashley River Road. A perfect finish for the night.

Taproom Happenings

Thursday 4/6/17 – Beer Release – Wicked Throat Chamah New England IPA. National Burrito Day with Rebel Taqueria

Friday 4/7/17 – Firkin Friday – Cask conditioned Keep Calm and Saison with Passionfruit and Mango, 2 Nixons ramen and yakitori

Saturday 4/8/17 – Rebel Taqueria will be on site from 2 – 6pm.

Sunday 4/9/17 – Rolled Quesadillas will be serving from 12 – 4pm

We’ve got some other fun events coming up this  month, including another visit from the Itinerant Literate mobile book store, and another Lu La Roe sip and shop. Keep an eye on our calendar for all the details.

From the Brewhouse

Captain Bligh’s robust porter is on the toasted coconut now so that will be returning in the next few weeks. This week we re-brewed the First Blood hefeweizen with blood oranges, so that one will be coming back on tap in the next few weeks. We’re excited to debut the Wicked Throat Chamah New England style IPA. We’ve spared no expense on the hops on this one! 25 pounds of hops in a 7 barrel batch. Looks like this one is a hit already so come check it out.
